A Canadian federal code classifying the goods or services a procurement concerns.
GSIN codes categorise what is being bought. Federal notices carry one or more, and buyers use them to describe requirements consistently across departments.
For suppliers, identifying the two or three GSIN codes that genuinely describe your work is one of the highest-return hours you can spend. Notification services key off these codes, so precise codes produce a usable stream of relevant opportunities while vague ones produce noise you stop reading — which is worse than no alerts at all.
